It's Easiest Way to Express Your Gratitude to Others

All languages have terms and expressions of how to thank someone for someone's actions or words, as a sign to express the person's admiration in fulfilling a want/need. Whether it was for a paid service, or even a small task, the meaning behind the message is the sense of connection between two or more parties, allowing a high level of understanding, and enables people to connect with each other in a fluid manner.

There are several occasions on how to thank others. When it comes to Arabic, it’s all about this one specific rule: know the gender in which you are expressing your gratitude towards, then continue your march in the language! So, whether you are a tourist in an Arabic-speaking country or preparing for your next trip, you can use a variety of gratitude words to leave a great impression.

Before starting with the different ways of saying "thank you", let's first clarify that Arabic has different forms. The first form is, Formal Arabic (الفصحى - Al-fusha), and that is used in formal situations, such as political speeches, religious texts, and literature books, as well as colloquial or daily Arabic. The second form is, General Arabic (العامية - Al-ammya), which is spoken in different dialects that depends on the country itself.

If you were to use Formal Arabic, you would say:

Thanks - شكرًا – shukran (said to any gender)

Thank you - شكرًا لكَ - shukran laka (said to a male)

Thank you - شكرًا لكٍ - shukran laki (said to a female)

Thank you for your kindness - لِلُطْفِكَ شكرًا (Shokran Lilotfika)

Thank you so much - شكرا جزيلاً (Shokran Jazilan)

I’m grateful for you - مُمْتَن لَكَ - Mumtanon Laka (said to Male)

I’m grateful for you - مُمْتَنةٌ لَكِ - Mumtanaton Laki ( said to Female).

May god reward you - جَزاكَ الله خيرًا- Jazaka Allahu khay-ran

As for colloquial or daily Arabic spoken, you can say:

In gulf dialect:

Thanks (passive) - مشكور – Mashkoor (said to male).

Mashkoora - مشكورة (said to female).

in Egyptian dialect:

Thank you so much متشكر جدًا أو أوي - mutashakkir giddan /awii (said by male).

Mutashakkira giddan /awii متشكرة جدًا أو أوي (said by female)

In the Tunisian dialect:

Wishing you a long life – يِعَيِّشَك - Ye'ay-shak

In the Syrian and Lebanese dialects:

I’m thanking you - بِاتْشَكَّرَك - Betshakkarak (said to male)

Betshakkarek – بِاتْشَكَّرِك (said to female)

Thank you very much or thanks a lot- شكرًا كتير - Shukran kteer

In Omani dialect:

God bless you- بارك اللَّه فيك - Baraka Allahou Feek
